Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will I need a half, 3/4 or full head of hair extensions?

A. A half head of extensions is for those wishing to create volume rather than length. 3/4 of a head can be used for those who already have relatively long hair and are only looking to increase the length by a couple of inches or so. A full head is advisable for those wishing to increase the length of their hair considerably and achieve a full and natural look.

Q. Should I have any extra strands of hair applied?

A. Generally 150 strands is plenty for a full head of hair. However if your hair is very short or thick or you'd just like a little extra volume you may choose to have a few extra strands applied. This can be done at a cost of £1.50 per strand.

Q. What does the term 'virgin hair' mean?

A. Virgin hair is hair that has never been dyed or processed.

Q. What does the term 'remy hair' mean?

A. Remy hair is hair that has got it's cuticles aligned correctly this is very important as hair with the cuticles running in different directions will mat and tangle very easily.

Q. How long does my hair need to be to have hair extensions?

A. Hair should be at least 3-4 inches long otherwise the bonds will be  visible.

Q. Which length of hair should I choose?

A. For most people 18 inches is plenty long enough. This would bring your hair down to approximately bra strap level on your back. Some people choose to have longer hair but it is not advisable to go much over twice the length of your own hair as this can put added strain on your hair and often look unnnatural.

Q. Are Micro ring extensions suitable for all hair types?

A. Micro ring extensions are suitable for the majority of hair types however, they may not be suitable for people with very thin hair.

Q. Can anyone have micro ring hair extensions?

A. Clients who have alopecia or hair loss problems are not suitable for these type of hair extensions. Clients with ezcema on the scalp, who are pregnant, who have had a baby within the last 6 months and those with very weak hair (breakage within the first inch of hair growth) are not suitable for hair extensions.

Q. Can I dye my extensions once they are applied?

A. Virgin hair that has never been dyed before is brilliant for dying and as the colours are limited it is often necessary to dye the hair to get a perfect match. Pre-coloured extensions can be dyed by a professional but as there is a large range of colours to choose from this should not be necessary

Q. Can I dye my roots/regrowth while I have extensions in?

A. Yes. you can use an all over tint on the roots as you normally would or highlights can be done on the T-section.

Q. How long will the consultation last?

A. Eleanor allows up to one hour for each client's consultation however, half this time is usually enough.

Q. How long will it take to have my extensions fitted?

A. This varies depending on the length and thickness of a clients hair. You should allow approximately 4 hours including blending for a full head, 3 hours for 3/4 head and 2 hours for half a head.

Q. How long can I keep my extensions in for?

A. The micro ring application method is the ideal solution to long term hair extension wear. However, it is important that the extensions are tightened every 3-4 months in order to avoid unnecessary damage to the natural hair. Good quality hair can be retipped and used again several times with virgin Russian hair lasting anything up to 2 years.

Q. Can I supply my own hair?

A. Eleanor is happy to fit your own hair extensions for a charge of approximately £150 depending on length and volume. However, please make sure that you know what you are buying. There are some products on the market that have been acid dipped to make finer and then silicone coated to make them look shiny and nice. After a few washes the coating washes off and the hair becomes dull, fluffy and matted. These then have to be taken out and thrown away which in the long run really doesn't save any money.

Q. Will the extensions show?

A. The micro rings are small flat metal tubes that are closely matched to the colour of your hair. Eleanor uses 6mm copper rings which are slightly longer but more lightweight and flat than the standard ones. These are placed to lie flat against your head and so that the top layer of your hair conceals them.

Q. Will I be able to feel the extensions? and do they feel uncomfortable?

A. For the first couple of days the extensions may feel a little strange, it usually takes a week or so for you to really get used to them. This however, is surely a small price to pay for beautiful long, thick hair.

Q. Will the extensions come out?

A. Micro ring extensions are very secure, Eleanor uses 6mm copper micro rings which are generally even more secure than the standard ones. Occasionally one or two may slip out over the course of the 3-4 month period. If this does happen Eleanor offers a monthly maintenance appointment where these can be replaced and any loose ones can be tightened.

Q. Where is your Russian virgin hair sourced from?

A. Eleanor uses Russian hair that is ethically sourced from the Slavic population in the cold Siberian regions of Russia and the Ukraine. The hair is collected in ponytails from single donors. It has never been chemically processed or dyed and is therefore guaranteed to have it's cuticles intact and aligned (remy). This hair is considered the best especially for lighter haired caucasian women.

Q. Where is your pre coloured Russian hair sourced from?

A. This hair is sourced from different  donors of Slavic ethnicity throughout areas of Russia and the Ukraine. The hair is then carefully dyed to make sure it is the same colour throughout the whole length.

Q. Where is your European virgin hair sourced from?

A. This hair is ethically sourced from single donors in countries such as : Kazakhstan, Georgia, Moldova, Armenia and Uzbekistan. It has it's cuticles in tact and is cuticle aligned (remy).

Q. What is the difference between 'single drawn' and 'double drawn hair'?

A. Single drawn hair is hair that is taken straight from the donors head and contains a percentage of shorter hairs. This is how the hair grows naturally. The shortest hairs only are removed. Double drawn hair contains only hairs of the same length. All shorter hairs are carefully removed by hand so that only the longest remain. Double drawn hair is often double the price of single drawn hair.
